Want timeless wedding photos? Here’s how to make Social Trends Your Own!!
We can help you adapt each trend and make it your own - whatever your vision is for your special day. So you can have amazing photos AND a good time at your wedding.
You and your partner are in the thick of wedding planning and don’t know which colour(s) to choose for your bridesmaid dresses or wedding party colours in general for that matter. You take to the wonderful world of social media for inspiration…
So then you go down a rabbit hole on TikTok and see some “trends” that you would love to incorporate into your timeline for photos and think OUHH I WOULD LOVE PHOTOS LIKE THIS!!. Which is great- an experienced wedding photographer will be able to support you in making these trends your own so you don’t look like every other couple on IG.
You may have come across a trend where you see the lovely couple sitting on two chairs in the middle of the dance floor and the DJ is playing a song and calling up each table and in the midst of the chaos they’re trying to see how many tables it takes to beat the song (right then and there lies in the problem already). While that’s all fun and dandy this trend would probably only work if you have around 50-60 guests at your wedding (5 or 6 tables of 10). Sometimes they come out funny because people are jumping in and then out because they’re trying to beat the clock. Other times they come out a hot mess because the song is only 2.30-3.
Here’s what we would do instead…as photographers who have captured 50+ weddings and received feedback like THIS “They done such an amazing job at taking pictures very calmly even though your wedding party can get absolutely crazy”. -J+T
If you were wanting that set of photos in your gallery, have the DJ play a longer song, maybe one that’s 4-5.30 minutes and have the tables come up one by one and do an “album cover” type of pose for the photo and or if they wanted to do something funny-such as striking a pose for the camera.
Trends are trends for a reason because they come and go but if you want your photos to reflect that timeless look they have to match YOU and your new family - not just a trend you see on IG. Your wedding photographer will help you take photos that are fun, current - AND feel relevant 50 years from now. If your day is a relaxed pace and you want people doing a tumble roll (people get really creative when they have the creative juices flowin’...if you catch our drift) to get into the photo then it won’t really make sense in your gallery. If you happen to have more than 60 people at your wedding and want to incorporate this trend then just have the DJ play continuous songs and people can take their time coming up so that way it’s not a mad dash to get the photo done.
In saying that, we can help you adapt each trend and make it your own - whatever your vision is for your special day. So you can have amazing photos AND a good time at your wedding.
What we’re trying to get at here, is if you see a trend that you love on tiktok or pinterest and want to incorporate into your day then get creative with it and make it your own!! Even the flowers around the bride trend, we’ve done some really funny ones with the groom, and they look ravishing!! It really brings out their eye colour!
You can absolutely pull “trends” from different corners of the internet to know how you want your wedding to feel and look but we want your gallery to reflect who you are as people and showcase the love that you two share as best as possible.

Tips to get comfortable in front of the camera!
Really get to know your photographer(s) and build rapport with them through the process
Getting to know your photographers is paramount and can help take some of the edge off. Get on the phone with them or meet for a coffee ahead of time! Be sure to develop a genuine connection with them so the butterflies go away and you don’t notice the camera and it just becomes another fun outing for the two of you. Ultimately, that’s what we want, for the two of you from this experience is to not be camera shy and get some amazing photos together that will forever be frozen in time.
The Ultimate Guide to Engagement Sessions
Here are our Tips to get comfortable in front of the camera!
Hey again love birds!
Engagement photos can be a nerve-wracking process. You know you should probably get them done, but the idea of being in front of a camera makes you want to avoid it like the plague!! Thankfully, we’ve got tips to get you comfortable with your engagement photos.
Take your photos in a private location
If you’re very nervous about your photos being taken, choose a secluded location. This will help to relieve some stress of having others watching you when you’re being photographed. This is a very intimate experience with your partner and we don’t want it to be as if you’re walking down the red carpet at your new movie premier with 1000’s of cameras around-catch our drift. Besides the location being secluded, we also like to suggest having your photos done at a location that is meaningful to you or somewhere doing an activity the two of you love doing together. This way you’re so caught up in having fun together that you forget all about the camera!

Think about your first date OR Where you two first met
Think about the first time you two went out, what did that feel like? More importantly, think about how far you’ve come since then! Remind each other of your journey as a couple. Adventure awaits, we love learning about how the two of you met and how long you’ve been together.
Say your favorite vegetable slowly and sexy
This might sound crazy–– we know–– but it works. Fair warning* the two of you might start laughing. Which is exactly what we want. Say your favorite vegetable as slowly and sexily as you can. It’s absolutely ridiculous, but it’s guaranteed to make your partner laugh. Give it a shot!
Reminder: You’re there for each other!
At the end of the day, you’re there for each other. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks-or what we think. (Our only thoughts are we want these photos to be everything you want them to be) These photos are for you two to remember this special time in your life. You’ll be a married couple for the rest of your lives, but only an engaged couple once.
Next stop: final tips to make your engagement photos perfect. Stay tuned for quick tips to remember before your engagement session!

The Ultimate Guide to Engagement Sessions-Part 2
What kind of landscape are you looking for?
Consider what kind of landscape you’re looking for. You could choose something chic and with city buildings, or light and airy in the woods.
Where should we do our engagement photos?
Hey Lovebirds!
Now that you’re thinking through who you want to shoot your engagement photos, try to envision where your engagement photos are going to be. Ask yourself a few questions to help decide on a location:
Are there any spots that are particularly special to you?
Want to head back to the spot where you had your first date? How about the spot where you got engaged? There is a lot of potential for spots that could be special to you both. This is also a time to forget about the world around you and celebrate the love you and your partner share!
What kind of landscape are you looking for?
Consider what kind of landscape you’re looking for. You could choose something chic and with city buildings, or light and airy in the woods.
Are you inspired by any engagement photos you’ve seen already?
Have you seen engagement photos that inspire you already? Let your photographer know! They can help you to figure out how to pull off similar engagement photos that are unique to your love story.
Quick tip: Gather inspiration for your engagement photos with platforms like Pinterest and Instagram. It will help your photographer to see what you’re looking for! But please please only use this for inspiration for location ideas, outfit ideas, don’t use them as must have shots. Your engagement photos should be genuine and in the moment. If you’re following a must have Pinterest list you’ll miss out on enjoying the moment together.
What are you planning to wear?
If you’re planning to wear something in particular, consider how it would look in different locations. If you want to get formal with your outfits, for example, consider choosing a location that matches that vibe.
We’ll go over how to dress for your engagement shoot in the next email in the series. For now, start brainstorming on dreamy locations for your session!

A few love notes from our couples!
“Joseph and Kim were amazing with our engagement photos and created for us the most beautiful photos we ever had. They are warm and friendly, knew just what to do, and ensured our photoshoot was relaxing, fun and comfortable. What happened out of it....instead of a stiff line of posed photos...they produced an authentic, happy capture of how we felt that day and who we are! Their communication prior to and after the photos was quick and they never left us hanging or wondering. We cannot be more happy with their services and that they are now part of the memories of our coming wedding!” - Susanna + Elias
Hey Lovebirds!
Now that you know a little bit more about engagement photos, we want you to hear from the experts – our couples – on what it’s really like to have an engagement shoot with us. Let’s hear what they have to say:
“Absolutely amazing! My fiancé and I booked with Joseph and Kim for our Wedding and Engagement photos and I can't say enough good things about them after the engagement shoot! They have been great at communicating with us and a pleasure all around to deal with! They even accommodated our pup in some photos :)! We took the pictures Friday and had a sneak peak by Saturday night. The pictures are perfect and exactly what we were looking for. We love how the photos turned out and can't wait to see the rest. During the photo shoot they both made us feel at ease! We can't wait to have them be part of our wedding next year and capture those special moments! ❤️ Highly recommend!!” - Sam + Dom
“I cannot say enough good things about Joseph and Kim! I met them at the London Bridal Expo and right away they seemed so nice and genuine. My fiance and I booked a package with them that included an engagement shoot. They recommended Charlotteville Brewing Company which ended up being absolutely beautiful ! They quickly made us feel comfortable in front of the camera and they made the whole experience a lot of fun! I would say the best part is that when the shoot was done, they took time to sit and really get to know us. We cannot wait to work with them during our wedding later this year!” - Laura + Eric

Why you should ALWAYS “Trust the experts”…
Why You Should ALWAYS Trust the Experts…
Look…It’s your wedding day. The MOST important day in you and your partner’s lives. We totally get it, you have a certain vision of the way you want the decor to look, the colours of your florals, the way you want to spend your time throughout the day etc., but it is so important to always collaborate and trust the experts.
Look…It’s your wedding day. The MOST important day in you and your partner’s lives. We totally get it, you have a certain vision of the way you want the decor to look, the colours of your florals, the way you want to spend your time throughout the day etc., but it is so important to always collaborate and trust the experts.
Firstly, our approach to capturing a wedding day is to capture the day in its entirety. Sure, we do the formals, these could include your first kiss, a first look, bridal party portraits, your first dances, cake cutting etc., but along with capturing the formals, we try to capture everything that is happening around the two of you so that way you have those special memories to look back on that you may have missed throughout your day... We’re talking about your mom crying as you and your dad do your first dance, your besties busting their best moves on the dance floor, grandma giving you a hug and some advice before you walk down the aisle and so on and so forth… If we are being honest, it’s these memories we love to capture the most. The real, authentic, genuine moments throughout your day that reflect that you and your partner were truly present and surrounded by so much love.
Secondly, it is so important that your visions align for this relationship to work because you need to be on the same page with your photographer (hopefully that’s us). It’s crucial that you and your photographer have a trusting relationship that allows you to work together to make the most of your timeline throughout your day. When hiring your photographer, you shouldn’t just be looking for someone to snap photos, but instead you should be hiring someone who brings expertise and knowledge to help bring your visions to life. When working with us, we first and foremost want to build that trusting relationship that allows you to feel confident leaving the nitty gritty stuff to us. We like to listen and understand your needs so that we can bring all your visions to life. Conversely, not only do we want to bring your visions to life, but we want to EXCEED your expectations for photos so that you and your partner can cherish these memories for years to come.
Thirdly, when working with a photographer you should ensure that you work together to build a timeline that works for both parties. When you hire us, we listen to you to understand the moments and memories that are most important for us to capture and know exactly how to build a timeline to ensure that you have time to breathe throughout your day and be able to enjoy your day all while getting the photos you want. Because let’s face it, you didn’t choose to marry your best friend with all your closest family and friends to run around aimlessly trying to get a never-ending list of photos. If you want to have a timeline that ensures all that the beautiful moments are captured, then please work with your photographer, and listen to the “experts” to give them the time they need to capture the beautiful moments throughout the day in an easeful way.
Finally, when working with us we want to help guide you throughout your day to ensure that the happiness you and your partner share together shows in your photos. This is an important point to consider when trusting a photographer to capture your day. You need to really think about and decide who you trust and if they’d be a good fit to have alongside you on your wedding day. If the relationship is one sided and the photographer is controlling every moment of the day you in turn may end up looking miserable in your final photos. Trust us when we tell you this is the last thing we want. Of course, your photographer should know when to take control that way the timeline doesn’t veer off course too much, but they should also have that healthy balance of being able to recognize a moment where it is okay to absorb it a bit longer and stay present. At the end of the day, when working with us, we want to capture all the moments you wish while ultimately allowing you to enjoy your day. You’ve invited all these people and put in so much work to planning the most magical day that enjoying it and being present should be nonnegotiable.

The Ultimate Guide to Engagement Sessions
How do they make you feel?
When you have a consultation with a photographer, consider how well you gel with them. Could you be friends with this person? Do they make you laugh? Are they making you feel catered to? Are they educating you?
The Ultimate Guide to Engagement Sessions
How do I choose a photographer?
HEY LOVEBIRDS!
WITH THE HOLIDAYS ENDING AND A NEW YEAR UNDERWAY WE THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE THE PERFECT TOPIC FOR A NEWSLETTER.
DID YOU KNOW THAT THE HOLIDAYS ARE THE MOST POPULAR TIME OF YEAR FOR COUPLES TO GET ENGAGED?
FOR US AS PHOTOGRAPHERS, THE FIRST FEW MONTHS FOLLOWING THE HOLIDAYS ARE SOME OF OUR BUSIEST MONTHS WITH INQUIRES. BELOW YOU WILL READ WHAT WE THINK ARE THE BIGGEST THINGS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER WHEN BOOKING AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION. LET’S GET INTO IT...
When it comes to your engagement photos, what’s the biggest thing you need to consider?
...
If you guessed your photographer, you’re absolutely right!! But how do you actually choose the right photographer for you? There are a few things to keep in mind…
1. What is their photography style?
Take a look at their portfolio, their Instagram/facebook and most importantly their website to see what they’ve been up to. Do they have a consistent style that you vibe with? If you’re a laid-back couple, look for photographers with photos you can see yourself being in.
2. How do they make you feel?
When you have a consultation with a photographer, consider how well you gel with them. Could you be friends with this person? Do they make you laugh? Are they making you feel catered to? Are they educating you?
3. What are their past clients saying?
Read the testimonials a photographer has available. Do the clients writing reviews sound like you? Does what they’re saying speak to you as a person?
4. How much do they cost?
With the time, effort and money that goes into planning a wedding, pricing does matter at the end of the day. Are they within your budget? Are engagement sessions included in their packages?
When it comes to choosing a photographer, remember that what matters at the end of the day is how you feel. Putting in the time to choose the right photographer for you will make sure you get photos that tell your story the way it deserves to be told.
Why is GREAT photography the BEST wedding investment?
A great photographer will capture photos that tell a story about your day! After all, who doesn’t love a good story? When working with us, nothing lights us up more than being a fly on the wall on your wedding day. We LOVE capturing those candid moments such as your guardian passing you off as you walk down the aisle, the reaction of your guests as they hear you say your vows or when your partner sees you for the first time. Another great moment that is often underrated is the reception. We absolutely LOVE when the party starts, and your best people are busting their most fabulous moves on the dancefloor!! Those are definitely epic photos to capture and as equally epic to have as a memory to look back on.
So, you have secured your date and have finally booked the venue of your dreams! Now it comes time to find your photographer for your special day…
Here are 3 criteria that you should be looking for when picking a great wedding photographer!
A great photographer will capture your day in its entirety! No matter the package that you choose for your special day a great photographer will be able to capture your day in its entirety. When working with us; we help curate a timeline that works with your visions and wants for the day so that way it leaves time to capture everything that is happening around you regardless of the package you choose!! We sit down with you two-three months before your wedding day to help build that timeline and tighten up and loose ends so that way all the important moments are captured!!

Above all else, a great photographer will be enjoyable to work with! In our opinion this is the most paramount criteria to consider when selecting your photographer. We are the vendor that you and your partner spend the most time with. Therefore, your photographer should be a person/duo that you gel extremely well with and have a great connection with. When you work with us, you are more than just clients! You become part of the images by JAC family, and we get so invested in your love! Truth bomb…we may even cry during the ceremony because we love when our couples make a promise to one another to stick through the good times and bad!
What we’re trying to get at is, when investing in a great wedding photographer, be sure to take the above points into consideration as photography is the only tangible thing that you take away from your wedding day that you can look back on for years to come!! Your flowers will fade over time…your playlist from your DJ will fade off into the abyss…your wedding party will return their attire the next day, but your photos are the only thing that you will keep forever from your wedding day!!

So, you just got engaged and now it’s time to plan the wedding of your dreams! You may be feeling excited and a little overwhelmed right now and that’s completely okay. Over the next few months, you are going to have to make some BIG decisions and choices which will be so fun and a little scary. This is such an exciting time in your life, and we want you to feel all the feels. They are important and paramount in helping you navigate all the decisions you will face.
We decided to dedicate a blog post with helpful tips and tricks when it comes to planning a wedding. Our hope is that this blog post helps alleviate some of the challenges and stress that comes with planning your dream day.
One of the biggest decisions you are going to have to make when planning your wedding is choosing your photographer. In our opinion this is actually one of the most important decisions you will make as these photos from your day will be the one thing from your wedding that lasts a lifetime and leaves a legacy of your love from that day.
Selecting a wedding photographer may seem challenging. From speaking with our past and present clients we know that it was one decision that really took them a lot of thought and consideration. Most said it was the toughest decision they made when planning their wedding and one that felt the most stressful. This is why we decided to explore this topic first. Our goal for this week's newsletter is to provide you with some helpful tips that you can use to choose a wedding photographer with ease and know that it’s a decision that feels right to you!
1. CONNECTION- One of our biggest tips when searching for your ideal photographer is connection. Making sure you connect with your photographer is SO crucial. It’s much more important to connect with your photographer on a deeper level as a human than something that’s materialistic…such as money. We’re not saying you need to become BFFs with your photographer but ensuring that your personalities gel well is key.
When we work with clients, we like to really get to know you. It’s important for us to feel a good sense of connection with you so that we can genuinely capture your love as authentically as possible. We take this connection seriously as we are the vendor you will be spending the most time with throughout your wedding day. Real talk, sometimes you spend more time with us than some of your friends and family at your wedding. And full disclosure there have been times where we have helped brides take a washroom break because no bridesmaids were around. We truly mean it when we say we are here for you. Bottomline: we never want to be the reason someone has a bad wedding day and never want to dull the party. We want to connect with you so that you trust us and feel safe and confident in front of the camera.
2. CHOOSE A STYLE YOU’RE MOST DRAWN TO- Another important tip to consider is choosing a photographer whose work you love. Every photographer has their own unique editing style, and you must love what you see, or you may end up being disappointed with your photos. Don’t be afraid to ask photographers to see full galleries of their work. Spend lots of time scrolling through their social media accounts and make sure their work looks consistent and something you love. Make sure you love how they capture the light, look how they capture emotions, be sure to ask to see photos they’ve taken indoors and outdoors. A wedding day is fast paced and there’s a lot that goes on and the photographer should adapt to every lighting situation…i.e., do they mostly shoot outdoors? Would they work well in a church that’s dimly lit? Are they able to use flash? These are questions that you must ask yourself before you choose a photographer for your special day!! Truly, don’t be shy and ask to see everything! Again, these photos last a lifetime, and you want to love how they are capturing the whole scene.
When we capture photos throughout your day, we like to capture real candid moments. We like to capture the day in its entirety. We are constantly snapping pictures of you, your guests, and most importantly raw emotions. What can we say… we love a good teary-eyed moment! Before your wedding day we will be sure to sit down with you and help build a timeline that allows us to capture all the moments and memories you are wanting for your day. We want to make sure your timeline gives us a balance of intimate moments where we step away from your guests and capture the love of just you and your partner and moments where we are like flies on the wall capturing the love and laughter surrounding you and your guests that day. When we edit your photos, we do so in a way that is timeless and true to colour. We know all the thoughts and decisions that go into picking a colour scheme and decor and want to be sure that our photos reflect the true colours of your day. We want your photos to be as relevant 100 years from now as they were on your wedding day. Check out some of our work here---> www.instagram.com/imagesbyjac
3. DO YOUR RESEARCH- This tip goes without saying, but it is so so important to do your research. It’s important to look at more than just a photographer’s Instagram when making your decision. Check out their website, ask for full galleries and most importantly read the reviews. Word of mouth is huge so don’t be afraid to ask around, talk to friends that have worked with them or past clients and really listen to what they have to say.
When booking us we ensure that our clients feel valued the minute we connect. We are sure to listen to all your details and wants so that you feel heard, and no important shots get missed. We like to visit venues and ceremony spaces prior to your wedding day to ensure we have everything we need to take the best possible photos.
Here’s what a few of our clients had to say about working with us…
“We hired Joe and Kim to capture our wedding day, and we can’t say enough amazing things about them! They feel like friends now, and we know we’ll use them again in the future as our family grows. You both made us feel so natural in front of the camera. Thank you for all of your hard work and energy on our wedding day!” - Elizabeth
“I love this photography business. Kim and Joseph are so kind, and easy to work with. They make sure you get all the photographs you want, instead of rushing to get things done. I would 10/10 recommend them to friends, and family and most definitely will book them for further photos. Thanks for everything you guys do, you’re amazing! :)” - Kaylee
4. BOOK A TEST RUN - Another important tip before choosing a photographer is, set up an engagement session with them and see how they work. If you love the energy that they brought to the engagement session. Then you’ll certainly love how they work on a wedding day!!
When booking an engagement session with us we like to do it at a location that is meaningful to you and your partner. We like to have tons of fun and really get to know you both, so we aren’t strangers on your wedding day. This is so important to consider because on your wedding day you’ll feel more relaxed which will be apparent in your pictures. Engagement photos are incredible to do because they also give us an opportunity to work through ideas of different poses and shots you might like to see what poses work and don’t work before your wedding day!
10 QUESTIONS YOU SHOULD BE ASKING YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER BEFORE BOOKING THEM!!
With this week's blog post we’re going to be covering 10 questions you should be asking your wedding photographer before booking them!! We don’t get asked these questions nearly enough and think all of you should really be asking your potential photographer these questions to fully understand the process and get to know your photographer. So, we thought we would dedicate an entire newsletter to this topic in a little Q&A format!
1. How would you describe your photography style? We would describe our style as true to life/true to colour! We want you to have your photos as relevant today…as they are 100 years from now! You put SO MUCH time and effort into choosing your colours for the day, and we want you to remember your flowers, linens, centrepieces etc. as they were from the most important day of your lives!!
2. What is your turnaround time for our wedding photos? We always try our very best to get your photos to you as soon as possible. If we’re in the thick of wedding season…our usual turnaround time is 8 to 12 weeks! When you book with us all of this is laid out in our contract so that everything is completely transparent and there are no surprises.
3. What equipment do you carry? This one is for ALL the camera nerds out there. We show up on the day of your wedding with THREE camera bodies. TWO Nikon D750 bodies…which have two dual card slots. This means that as we take your photos, we are already backing them up. Essentially, the second memory card acts as a backup for your photos…should the first one gets corrupted (knock on wood!!!). Between the two of us we also carry over SIX lenses. This allows us firstly, to have backups and secondly, to give your photos dynamic range. We could continue to nerd out here and tell you all about our flashes, tripods, soft boxes, reflectors, prisms, gels, lens balls etc. but we can save that for any personal inquiries as we don’t want to bore any of you here.
P.S please keep your fingers crossed as we’re hoping to add a drone to mix next year!
4. How do you backup our photos? Once we get home from your special day, we upload your photos immediately to our computer and 2 hard drives. This is one of our favourite parts as we get to relive the day on the big screen! After that we store the SD cards from your day with the RAW images on them in a fireproof safe until the final gallery is delivered.
5. If our special day was postponed because of an event such as COVID-19 would we lose our retainer? The short answer is NO! We try our very best to accommodate all of our client’s requests and will work with you to move your date to a new one! If there is a date that you were wanting and it’s available it’s YOURS!! As long as you are doing everything possible to work with us in finding a new date that we are also available then all we do is transfer the retainer to the new date and get an updated contract signed.
6. Can we request a specific shot list of photos we are wanting? Definitely! We always do our very best to ensure we get every shot you request. We don’t need a list of every shot you are wanting from the day, rather a must have list of anything special that may occur throughout the day that is unique to you and your wedding. Closer to your wedding we will sit down and go over all the shots you are wanting and vibe you are hoping for in terms of photos. We also like you to create a family shot list as well as a must have photo list of your day (special moments, surprises, important heirlooms etc.). We’re going to play devil's advocate for a second…We know you love Pinterest (don’t we all) but truthfully…we want your day to be unique to you! You can look to Pinterest for inspo.. But please, please, please don’t plan your photography shot list around what someone else’s wedding looked like. What we will never be able to do is recreate those exact moments because the emotions and happiness in those photos are unique and true to that couple in those photos. Bottomline your photos should be unique to you and your partner! We want them to feel real, rare, and authentic. Sure, look up different colour schemes and see what works and what doesn’t but ultimately base your decisions on what you and your partner like/dislike.
7. How do we get our photos? All edited photos will be available to you via a USB and a private online gallery. The online gallery will be good for up to ONE year from the date we deliver the final gallery. Your online gallery will be password protected and with that you are able to share the link with family and friends for them to download any photos they wish from the day. Our clients LOVE this feature especially when it comes to sharing photos with their wedding party, parents, grandparents etc. It is such a dream to just send a link and be done as opposed to having to send every person individual photos.
8. Do you provide sneak peeks? ABSOLUTELY! We can’t wait to send you snap shots throughout your day to help you relive those moments! Within 48 hours after your wedding, we will give you a good number of sneak peeks from all moments throughout your day! The sneak peeks won’t be 50 sunset shots…but merely shots from the morning leading all the way to your reception. Also, if you had any photos, you were specifically wanting for a thank you card etc., we would be sure to include those in the sneaks as well!
9. Do you have a second shooter option and if so, do you separate? YES! All of our wedding packages include two photographers!! It’s always my wife (Kim) and I (Joseph). Should either one of us not be able to attend (trust us, we would be sad) we have a trusted list of photographer friends that we have for our seconds. They have been hand chosen by us and are ones that we have worked with a lot and their styles are very close to ours. In terms of separating, we absolutely do this if the timeline permits us to. Sometimes we are lucky, and the timeline works out for us to stick together (which we love) throughout the day!
10. How many photos should we expect from our day? This is a great question and would vary depending on the amount of coverage you choose. Our packages include anywhere from 300-500 plus photos and highlight all the special moments throughout your day. We like to ensure that you are getting a wide variety of shots from your entire day, not just an entire gallery of only your ceremony.
BONUS…
11. How do you make your couples feel comfortable in front of the camera?? We LOVE this question, and it is something we believe we thrive at. When we book a couple, we really like to connect with who they are as people and do everything in our power to become, not just another vendor, but their friend. It’s really important for us to get to know one another so that you are not shy and uncomfortable on your wedding day. A good way to do this is an engagement session. We highly recommend this as it is a good trial run of what it will be like working together before your wedding day. We get to share lots of laughs and warm you and your partner up in front of the camera so that come wedding day you’re a pro! Another thing we really like to do is have FUN. We love joking around and being silly with our couples. We do a mix of candid/posed shots… What we mean by this is we often set our couples up (or wedding parties, families etc.) in a posed position and then give a prompt such as whisper the sexiest fruit in your partner's ear or sing your favourite Shania Twain song as loud as you can. Then after we have made sure we’ve fixed your hair or tucked in any clothing tags, we step back and capture the moment as you and your partner are laughing and enjoying the time together as if we are not even there.
We hope you enjoyed this Q&A session with us. We hope it helped answer some of the questions you may have when looking for your most ideal wedding photographer. Unsure if you should book an engagement session before your wedding day?!? The answer is always YES!! In this blog postwe’ll outline 3 reasons why YOU should do an engagement session with your photographer before your wedding day. We get it…finding a photographer for your special day can be a daunting task on its own, let alone getting in front of the camera. Getting your photos done can bring up so many worries and insecurities and that’s why we always recommend doing an engagement session. Firstly, it’s a way to get all these worries and insecurities out of the way before your wedding day AND secondly, this is a moment that should be celebrated! A moment you and your partner should relish in! Anyway, enough of this, let’s get into the meat and potatoes of this newsletter…
REASON #1: It’s a good practice run before the wedding day! As photographers we are big fans of this reason. At an engagement session, you’ll get to see what poses you love and what ones not so much. You’ll have the opportunity to get comfortable in front of the camera and nail your poses, so we have a game plan for your wedding day. Creating this confidence and comfortability in front of the camera before your wedding day is a huge bonus for you and your partner especially if you think you and your partner are “not picture people.” Having this pre-wedding day confidence boost allows for your photos to end up looking authentic and just as beautiful as you imagined!
REASON #2: It gives you and your photographer a chance to bond before the wedding day! This is probably our most favourite reason because we love, love, love any extra opportunities we get to spend time getting to know our clients. Doing an engagement session pre-wedding day allows you to feel comfortable in front of the camera with your photographer, so that we are not strangers come wedding day!! We’re the vendor that you spend the most time with on your wedding day and we want your photos to reflect the love you two share without any awkwardness. One of the most common things we hear is, “I feel awkward in front of the camera”- so this is the perfect opportunity to connect with your photographer to break that “awkwardness” before your wedding day. In return, you and your partner will feel more at ease being in front of the camera sharing those intimate moments with your photographer on your wedding day.
REASON #3: Most importantly this is a moment in time you will never get back. Let us say that again so it can sink in… THIS IS A MOMENT IN TIME YOU WILL NEVER GET BACK and it deserves to be celebrated!! We don’t mean to shout this point at you, but truthfully, we find this is one thing most couples we talk to forget about. Most couples get engaged and dive right into wedding planning mode…we did it ourselves. Throughout that planning process they see how expensive a wedding will be and then an engagement session is usually one of the first things to be cut out of the budget because “you’ll have wedding photos anyway”. Don’t do that! Full disclosure, engagement photos were not something Kim and I made a priority when we got married last year. We as well chalked it up to being an extra expense and something we didn’t really need. However, it’s been 2 years since we’ve been engaged and 1 year since we’ve been married and it’s something we still regularly talk about being sad not having. It’s something we can never go back in time and do, and it is a moment we’ll never be able to recreate. This is why we think you should ALWAYS DO AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION because we get it firsthand. This moment is so important to cherish and have beautiful memories to look back on. It’s the start of your wedding planning journey. When you really think about it, if you didn’t get engaged there wouldn’t be a wedding! So, take these photos to remember this literal once in a lifetime moment!!
BONUS REASON: It’s a day out for you and your partner to forget about life for a while and enjoy each other’s company and get some awesome pictures while you’re at it! Doing an engagement session can help you and your partner step out of the everyday world and step into being together for an hour and remember what it’s like being in love with your best friend and life partner.
So now we’ve talked about just how important it is to have an engagement session and you may be thinking, okay amazing- I want to book one in!
But where do I have one?
What time of day is best?
