This is such an exciting time in your life, and we want you to feel all the feels. They are important and paramount in helping you navigate all the decisions you will face.
We decided to dedicate a blog post with helpful tips and tricks when it comes to planning a wedding. Our hope is that this blog post helps alleviate some of the challenges and stress that comes with planning your dream day.
One of the biggest decisions you are going to have to make when planning your wedding is choosing your photographer. In our opinion this is actually one of the most important decisions you will make as these photos from your day will be the one thing from your wedding that lasts a lifetime and leaves a legacy of your love from that day.
Selecting a wedding photographer may seem challenging. From speaking with our past and present clients we know that it was one decision that really took them a lot of thought and consideration. Most said it was the toughest decision they made when planning their wedding and one that felt the most stressful. This is why we decided to explore this topic first. Our goal for this week's newsletter is to provide you with some helpful tips that you can use to choose a wedding photographer with ease and know that it’s a decision that feels right to you!
1. CONNECTION- One of our biggest tips when searching for your ideal photographer is connection. Making sure you connect with your photographer is SO crucial. It’s much more important to connect with your photographer on a deeper level as a human than something that’s materialistic…such as money. We’re not saying you need to become BFFs with your photographer but ensuring that your personalities gel well is key.
When we work with clients, we like to really get to know you. It’s important for us to feel a good sense of connection with you so that we can genuinely capture your love as authentically as possible. We take this connection seriously as we are the vendor you will be spending the most time with throughout your wedding day. Real talk, sometimes you spend more time with us than some of your friends and family at your wedding. And full disclosure there have been times where we have helped brides take a washroom break because no bridesmaids were around. We truly mean it when we say we are here for you. Bottomline: we never want to be the reason someone has a bad wedding day and never want to dull the party. We want to connect with you so that you trust us and feel safe and confident in front of the camera.
2. CHOOSE A STYLE YOU’RE MOST DRAWN TO- Another important tip to consider is choosing a photographer whose work you love. Every photographer has their own unique editing style, and you must love what you see, or you may end up being disappointed with your photos. Don’t be afraid to ask photographers to see full galleries of their work. Spend lots of time scrolling through their social media accounts and make sure their work looks consistent and something you love. Make sure you love how they capture the light, look how they capture emotions, be sure to ask to see photos they’ve taken indoors and outdoors. A wedding day is fast paced and there’s a lot that goes on and the photographer should adapt to every lighting situation…i.e., do they mostly shoot outdoors? Would they work well in a church that’s dimly lit? Are they able to use flash? These are questions that you must ask yourself before you choose a photographer for your special day!! Truly, don’t be shy and ask to see everything! Again, these photos last a lifetime, and you want to love how they are capturing the whole scene.
When we capture photos throughout your day, we like to capture real candid moments. We like to capture the day in its entirety. We are constantly snapping pictures of you, your guests, and most importantly raw emotions. What can we say… we love a good teary-eyed moment! Before your wedding day we will be sure to sit down with you and help build a timeline that allows us to capture all the moments and memories you are wanting for your day. We want to make sure your timeline gives us a balance of intimate moments where we step away from your guests and capture the love of just you and your partner and moments where we are like flies on the wall capturing the love and laughter surrounding you and your guests that day. When we edit your photos, we do so in a way that is timeless and true to colour. We know all the thoughts and decisions that go into picking a colour scheme and decor and want to be sure that our photos reflect the true colours of your day. We want your photos to be as relevant 100 years from now as they were on your wedding day. Check out some of our work here---> www.instagram.com/imagesbyjac
3. DO YOUR RESEARCH- This tip goes without saying, but it is so so important to do your research. It’s important to look at more than just a photographer’s Instagram when making your decision. Check out their website, ask for full galleries and most importantly read the reviews. Word of mouth is huge so don’t be afraid to ask around, talk to friends that have worked with them or past clients and really listen to what they have to say.
When booking us we ensure that our clients feel valued the minute we connect. We are sure to listen to all your details and wants so that you feel heard, and no important shots get missed. We like to visit venues and ceremony spaces prior to your wedding day to ensure we have everything we need to take the best possible photos.
Here’s what a few of our clients had to say about working with us…
“We hired Joe and Kim to capture our wedding day, and we can’t say enough amazing things about them! They feel like friends now, and we know we’ll use them again in the future as our family grows. You both made us feel so natural in front of the camera. Thank you for all of your hard work and energy on our wedding day!” - Elizabeth
“I love this photography business. Kim and Joseph are so kind, and easy to work with. They make sure you get all the photographs you want, instead of rushing to get things done. I would 10/10 recommend them to friends, and family and most definitely will book them for further photos. Thanks for everything you guys do, you’re amazing! :)” - Kaylee
4. BOOK A TEST RUN - Another important tip before choosing a photographer is, set up an engagement session with them and see how they work. If you love the energy that they brought to the engagement session. Then you’ll certainly love how they work on a wedding day!!
When booking an engagement session with us we like to do it at a location that is meaningful to you and your partner. We like to have tons of fun and really get to know you both, so we aren’t strangers on your wedding day. This is so important to consider because on your wedding day you’ll feel more relaxed which will be apparent in your pictures. Engagement photos are incredible to do because they also give us an opportunity to work through ideas of different poses and shots you might like to see what poses work and don’t work before your wedding day!
